The History of Jacksonville Hearing & Balance
Founded by J. Douglas Green, Jr. MD, Jacksonville Hearing and Balance Institute began serving patients in Jacksonville and northeast Florida in 1997. While serving on the staff of the Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, Dr. Green recognized the need for more patient access to advanced care for hearing loss, balance problems and related skull base surgery. While the Mayo Clinic offered these services, a limited number of patients in Jacksonville had access to its care, and consequently many Jacksonville patients routinely had to travel to Gainesville for treatment.
Driven by a need he saw not being filled, Dr. Green opened Jacksonville Hearing and Balance Institute with only five employees in a small office in the Baptist Medical Center Pavilion. The practice grew steadily, grounded in its core values of Christian faith, dedication to patient care and education and commitment to providing a compassionate environment.
By 2007, Jacksonville Hearing and Balance Institute had outgrown its first home and relocated to CenterONE along the booming J. Turner Butler Blvd. corridor. The move tripled the practice’s office space, which allowed for an expansion of the hearing aid and cochlear implant services in the spring of 2012.
Today, Jacksonville Hearing and Balance Institute has more than 20 professional and support staff members, including physician assistants and audiologists, and serves over 22,000 patients.
