If you or a loved one have hearing loss and are looking for peer support or ways to get involved in your community please consider attending a meeting of the Jacksonville chapter of Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). HLAA is a national organization that offers support and endless resources to those with hearing loss. Resources include but are not limited to, information regarding signs of hearing loss, information on potential treatment options, assistance with locating healthcare professionals, tips on good communication strategies and more. They also offer an abundance of information on additional technology such as alerting devices, captioned services and wireless accessories to enhance the function of your hearing aid or cochlear implant. Additionally, HLAA participates in special events across the country to create awareness and funding to continue their mission of advocating for people with hearing loss.
The Jacksonville chapter of HLAA was founded in 2006 and serves the communities of Duval, St. John’s and Nassau counties. Meetings are typically held on Saturdays throughout the year. Often the meetings will include a speaker to share information about a unique aspect of living with hearing loss and ways to improve your overall communication and daily life.
