With the Fourth of July right around the corner, many people will celebrate by enjoying fireworks. Whether it is a professional display or you are setting off your own, there is a risk for noise induced hearing loss. A fireworks display can produce sounds of up to 140 decibels. Noise induced hearing loss can start to occur at just 85 decibels, so it is important to keep your distance if you can. The greater the distance, the lower the decibel level will be which reduces your risk of noise damage.
In addition to staying far away, it is also a good idea to use earplugs to protect your ears. Foam earplugs can be purchased at a low cost at any drugstore or grocery store.
