Protecting Your Hearing Devices During the Summer

With spring and summer quickly approaching, we can expect more rainy days, higher humidity, and heatwaves. It’s crucial to wear hearing aids, cochlear implants, or bone anchored devices during all waking hours, but how do we navigate protecting our equipment?

  1. Avoid submerging your devices for any period of time—take them off before jumping in the pool!
  2. Wear a hat when possible to prevent device overheating in direct sun and deflect light rain from the devices.
  3. Invest in a drying unit—electric and passive options are available to purchase at JHBI.
  4. Don’t leave your devices in a hot car or in the sun—treat them the way you would treat a phone or computer in relation to heat.

Performing routine maintenance and home and returning to your audiologist for troubleshooting and device repair will help you to keep your devices performing their best this summer.
